How to Throw an Amazing Halloween Party on Your Deck or Patio

If you haven’t begun planning your Halloween party yet, its time to start! Whether you’re putting on a haunted house for your neighbors or just having a party with your friends, these Halloween decorating ideas can help you transform your backyard – and your deck – into a spooky spectacle that will haunt your guests.

Flaming Pumpkins

You don’t have to be a carving artist who can scratch a masterpiece onto the face of a pumpkin in order to take your jack-o-lantern to the next level. If your carving skills limit you to traditional designs, upgrade your candle to a roll of toilet paper soaked in kerosene or some other slow-burning fuel.

Instead of lighting a fire in your fire pit, you could place a flaming pumpkin in the pit instead.

Ghost Encounters

Ghost decorations are also great because they’re classic and relatively easy to make. These ones look like they’re coming up through the floor. You can have your ghosts coming up through the floor of your deck around chairs, your grill, or peaking out from behind potted plants.

Graveyard

Nothing says Halloween like a creepy graveyard. You can make one under a tree, or turn a garden bed into an overgrown graveyard. Add some large spider decorations crawling over the stones, fake cobwebs, or a skeleton or zombie arms as if the dead are trying to crawl out of the ground.

Skeleton Grin Candles

If you can get your hands on some old x-rays from your dentist (or, perhaps, make your own out of wax paper and pencil) these skeleton grin candles will make excellent decorations to scatter around your deck. Be sure to use battery-powered candles.
